A Tribute to My Father
Baseball is more than just a game. For many of us, it represents family, memories, and the people who introduced us to the sport we love. For me, that person was my father. He taught me, coached me, and influenced me. From wiffle ball in the back yard to little league to taking me to my first New York Mets game.

The Foundation of a Lifelong Bond with My Father
Baseball and baseball cards were more than just a hobby to me—they were the foundation of a special bond between my father and me. From opening packs to talking about our favorite players, those moments created memories that have lasted a lifetime.
The simple act of collecting cards became our time, our connection, and our shared passion. Through the game of baseball and the cards that captured its history, we built a relationship rooted in a love for the sport.
One of the Boys of Summer
A Remarkable Young Ballplayer
My father was an incredible baseball player whose talent was evident from an early age. At just 13 years old, he received the prestigious Carl Furillo Award during a live Brooklyn Dodger game broadcast, recognizing him as the best baseball player in the five boroughs of Brooklyn, New York—a remarkable achievement in such a competitive baseball hotbed. If only I could have seen him play in his prime.
He was a true five-tool player, combining power, speed, defense, arm strength, and hitting ability, and finished with an extraordinary lifetime .353 batting average.
His skill and dedication carried him all the way into college, but to me, he’ll always be more than the awards and stats—he’s the standard of greatness I grew up admiring.
The Lasting Impact
The memories we created around baseball and collecting are some of the most meaningful moments of my life. Every card tells a story, and many of those stories trace back to the time I spent with my father.
Those early experiences didn’t just shape my love for the game—they shaped who I am as a collector today.
In many ways, the passion behind Frank’s Card Corner comes from those moments we shared. This blog isn’t just about baseball cards—it’s about the memories, nostalgia, and connections that make the hobby so special.

1980 Topps Steve Garvey
Why it’s Special to Me
The 1980 Topps Steve Garvey baseball card will always be the most special card in my entire collection—not because of its monetary value, but because of the memory attached to it. It was the very first card I ever pulled from the very first pack my father bought me on the way to my little league game in 1980. I can still remember sitting in the car, tearing open that wax wrapper, smelling the gum, and seeing Garvey’s card staring back at me. In that moment, something clicked. That single card didn’t just start a collection—it sparked a lifelong passion for baseball cards and created a bond between my father and me that grew stronger with every pack we opened together.
A Tribute That Lives On
My father’s love for baseball continues to live on through the stories I share and the cards I collect. Every time I open a pack, talk about the hobby, or write about the history of the game, I’m reminded of where it all began.
This tribute is a small way to honor the man who helped start it all.
